Sleepless in Toronto & Flipping My Lid

I bought large and medium sized dishes with this pattern at Value Village in Toronto yesterday. For the life of me, I can't find this pattern referenced anywhere, yet I have the feeling it's there right in front of me and I keep skipping over it. Does anyone know? I'll get a good night's sleep if I can find out more.

P.S. Has anyone else had to pay extra for a casserole lid? The large dish had the lid (at least it fits, but I can't guarantee it's the proper lid), but it was sold separately for $2.99. I asked the world's most grumpy sales clerk about it and she grumbled something about the lid coming in at a different time. Still - $2.99 for a lid?

  1. Miss V here! I've seen the lids sold separately.

The pattern looks like a version of Old Town. If you keep picking up JaJ Pyrex, you'll be in the dark very often as no reference book exists.

In the Flickr Pyrex Love pool there's a member who might be able to help you as he was employed by Corning in the U.K. His name is Mackem54. He might be able to help. He might also be interested in joining our little Pyrex blog.;)

  2. What is the marking on the bottom of the bowl? It looks to be the same shape as a casserole I have marked "Pyrex England" (although mine is a different pattern). If it's from the UK...that changes where I start searching.

  3. I've seen that exact pattern on the same bowl style at a Value Village in Vancouver! It didn't appear to be the same as the North American ones...

And yes, our Value Village had a divided dish with the lid separately priced - however, the clerk only charged me for the lid. START THE CAR!

  4. i was going to say that it looks very similar to two pyrex england pieces i have. the england pieces have a different shape and more delicate/thin handles.

  5. Love this piece and looks like you've got a little more info on it from our blogging friends! I hate it when the lid is priced separately.

  6. Thanks for the speedy responses. I saw "Pyrex" poking out underneath the welded-on price stickers. With some warm soapy water, I was also able to read "England," but not JAJ. Interesting. Thanks Valerie. I'd love the English guy to climb aboard the Pyrex Collective love train. Tell him to email me and I'll add his name as an author.

Missouri Michael - do you have a picture of your piece on your blog? Let me know. I'd love to have a look.
Thanks also to Six Balloons, ana and lovely Linda.

  7. I don't have a picture of it on my blog yet - it was part of a huge score of Pyrex I got at an estate auction a week ago. I'll try to get some pictures and post on here either today or tomorrow.

  8. I found a lasagna pan recently at my VV with this pattern. (I've been so busy I haven't photographed any of my recent finds. Lots of catching up to do.) It does say Pyrex England underneath and according to my research, it is called the "Vine" design. I absolutely love it.

  10. Don't get me started on Value Village--all of their prices, in my opinion, are too high in my area of Canada! I am personally boycotting them (for the moment-ha). They do price lids at $1.99 (mostly) too.
It is nice to see some UK patterns popping up--this one looks intricate.

  11. Around here, we get the other end of the spectrum. They like to tape a non-matching lid on a casserole and charge you an extra dollar. And then sometimes if you look around, you'll find a matching lid by itself for $2.

  12. I found the exact same dish at Value Village today ^_^ I spend the afternoon figuring out what it's called. "Vine Design" apparently! Though I'd like to know what year(s) it was made in.

I paid 2.99$ for it, but couldn't find the lid anywhere. Value Village is awful for charging extra for the lid. I've found excellent Pyrex pieces at different thrift stores. Salvation Army for example, usually is cheapest.

  13. This piece was made in the 80's after 1983 when SunOpal glass was introduced in Sunderland. I believe this pattern was discontinued in 1987.
